Rocks and Minerals Cookie excavating

Hello there  It’s Abbykitty again and today I will tell you about my first science lesson on Rocks and minerals. So we were excavating cookies like they were the earth and we were the geologist.

Photo of me and my group destroying the earth.

what is a geologist?

A geologist is a scientist that studies the earth like how it was formed. They also study rocks and minerals.

A cookie is an earth

For our excavation, we used cookies as our earth and we ended with a destroyed cookie earth.  We tried to see how many chocolate diamonds we could find.  I found 39 chips on the hard cookie and 9 on the soft.

Innovation Day

Hi, it’s Abbykitty. Welcome to my Innovation day project. I will have Everything I did for my Innovation Day project in this blog. So get ready to dive in!

Middle Ages Background Information

Pulleys and Gears

`

My description of what is happening in the photo.

What is a pulley?

More than one pulley.

My Hypothesis.

So for our castle, we will have an arc at the front. We also will have a gun loop on the side, a drawbridge with gear, and a pulley system. We will also have a garden separated from the castle with a moat. So how the drawbridge will work is that we will add a thin wooden stick and we will and holes on the sides to put the stick through and we’ll add gears and string

 My Procedure Video.

Here are my final results:

 My Self-Assessments:

Self Reflection

What I liked was making the Castle, and planning. I liked it because it was fun to make and I liked creating a castle which made it fun was that I worked with my friends and that is what I liked. What I wish I did better was focus and get this blog done faster.

BYE SEE YOU NEXT TIME !!!!

Stop Motion Blog Post

Hi, it’s Abbykitty again. In this blog post, I will discuss my stop motion project.  My partners were Goombah James and Brutus (Their blog user names ). Our Stop motion was on the wild robot. The scene that we did was at the very beginning of the story.

Here is our stop motion

Hoped you liked the video

If I did this again I think that I would focus more and get it done a little earlier. Overall I think that The group that I was in was a good group for me.

Indigenous project blog post

Hi, it’s Abby kitty and this is my Indigenous project.

I really liked doing this project because it was fun learning about the indigenous community of Canada.  I think I can improve by changing the words into my own words and I think I need to focus more.

Sound blog post

Hi, It’s Abbykitty here and in this blog post, I’ll be talking about…..SOUND!!!!! I will also talk about some of my sound experiments that we are doing in science and vibrations.

What is sound?

Sound is caused by vibrations. Sound travels in sound waves and into our ears. Sound can be reflected off objects, and can be absorbed and modified. To keep your ears safe turn down the volume on TVs and iPods.

What are the 4 properties of sound?

The four properties of sound are that sound can be reflected, absorbed, and modified and that it is caused by vibrations.

How does sound travel?

Sound travels in sound waves. Sound is a type of energy that we can hear. The stronger the vibration is the louder the sound is. The closer you are the louder the sound is. We did an experiment With tuning forks. We had a yogurt cup and put plastic wrap on top of the yogurt cup and then we put salt on top then we did one tap with the tuning fork and the salt vibrated and with multiple taps, it vibrated even more. After the salt one, we did the water one. We took a yogurt cup and put it in water, then we taped it and put it in the water.

Here is a video

What are vibrations?

Thins that are vibrations always move back and forth or up and down. Vibrations are caused by sound. For science, we made a kazoo with a cardboard tube, tissue paper, and an elastic band. We put the tissue paper on the tube and used the elastic band to hold the tissue paper.

The human ear

Here is a video.

I made my ear With cardboard, hot glue, and plasticine.  I used templates and cut them out and traced them on cardboard. I cut out the cardboard and hot glued the together. After that, I used plasticine to make the eardrum, hammer, anvil, stirrup, and cochlea.

What is pitch?

How high or how low the sound is, is pitch. Flutes make a high pitch while tubas make low pitch sounds. Pitch is measured in ” Hertz” (Hz) People can only hear Hz between 20 Hz and 20 000 Hz. Dogs, Cats, Dolphins, and Bats can hear higher frequencies than humans. Bats and Dolphins Use echolocation to communicate. These noises are high-pitched.

Science Light unit

Hi, it’s Abby kitty and we finished our first science unit……. LIGHT!!!!!!!!! In this blog, I will be talking about luminous vs nonluminous natural vs artificial how light moves what is a reflection what makes a good reflector what is opaque, translucent, and transparent and what is refraction.

LUMINOUS VS NONLUMINOUS

Luminous means that an object can emit its own light here are a few examples the sun, stars, and lamps. Nonluminous means that an object can’t emit its own light. Many things in the world are nonluminous. I will give you a few examples of nonluminous things.  Tables, books end water bottles.

NATURAL VS ARTIFICIAL

Anything that is natural is not man-made. Man-made means that it was not made by humans and does not need them to exist. Here are some things that are not man-made.  Sun the moon and stars. Everything that is man-made is artificial meaning that it’s made by people and needs people to exist. Here are a few examples, lamps, nightlights, flashlights, and led lights.

               HOW LIGHT MOVES

Light moves in straight lines. If the object has a diffuse surface the outgoing rays will go all over the place and when that happens you can’t see the image as well as a flat surface. So that is why a good fisherman would not though his Seever when he sees a fish. Otherwise, he would not see the fish after the Seever hits the water.  What happens if an object is blocking the path of light? Well, it depends if it is transparent, translucent, or opaque. If it’s transparent it will continue if translucent only some will continue and when opaque none goes through.

WHAT IS REFLECTION

Reflection. Reflection happens when an object is put in front of a mirror and the object looks like the object is in the mirror. This happens because the mirror has a flat shiny surface, and the object is clear, but when you put an object in front of a diffuse surface like crumpled aluminum foil the photo isn’t clear. Relection of lake person holding clear crystal ball

WHAT MAKES A GOOD REFLECTOR

Some objects make good reflectors while some don’t. One good reflector is flat aluminum foil aside from a mirror. The white paper also reflects well. Any flat shiny specular surface will work, and any rough diffuse surface won’t work very well. Still, water also reflects well, and when a duck jumps in it goes blurry.

WHAT IS TRANSPARENT, TRANSLUCENT, AND OPAQUE

Transparent is when you can see all the way through the object. I will give you a few examples. Eyeglasses lenses, water glass, windows, plastic water bottles, plastic wrap, and plastic jars. Translucent is when you only see through a bit of a translucent object. I will give you a few examples of translucent objects. Tissue paper, toilet paper, and dirty glass. Opaque. Opaque is when you can’t see through an opaque object. I will give you a few examples of opaque objects. Notebook, Kleenex, blanket, erasers, and paper.  Opaque crystal.

WHAT IS REFRACTION

Refraction is when light bends due to media. An experiment called the broken pencil is a fun experiment in my opinion because if you fill a glass with water and put a pencil in it looks like the pencil is broken due to the media.

Thank you for reading my first science blog post!

My first Recount

Trip to the azores      – Draft one

Hi, this personal recount is about when I went to the Azores dunning spring break and school

The first thing we did was go to the Montreal airport on April 15.  The last time I went was when I was six. It was about 6:00pm when we left. It was windy on the drive to the airport. I listened to music on the drive. After two hours we arrived at the airport. I Was so excited. It was 8pm. We checked in and waited. After a few Minutes we boarded the plane. The flight was at 10:00. We found our seats and put our suitcases in the carry over. We waited for the plane to take off. I watched a movie on the screen and then I fell asleep. After I woke up, I ate dinner. After five and a half hours we were in Lisbon the capital of Portugal. It was 8:30 in Lisbon. Lisbon is 5 hours exactly ahead of Ottawa. We walk around till lunch then we eat lunch at a food court in a mall. After walking around, we got on a plane to go to the island Sao Miguel Açores and it took two and a half hours to arrive at Ponta delgada  airport. We rented a car and drove to the rental house. We unpacked and went to sleep. The next day we got ready for the day and drove to the supermarket to get food. We went back to the rental and ate dinner. We watched some tv and finally went to sleep.

My cat Abby 2

Hi. I have a cat named Abby. She is a domestic long hair gray and white. In other words you can use DLH for short. We got her from a cat rescue in Smiths falls. The cat rescue is called Furry tails cat rescue. Abby is playful, gentle and silly. She is turning two in 2022. Abby has siblings in Brockville. There’s a Furry tails in Brockville too.  Here is a list of things that Abby likes to do.

  • Meow at my door in the morning.

  • Jump onto the diner table when we are eating.

  • Eat breakfast.

  • Sleep in closets.

  • Sleep on my bed.

  • Lie down on my bedroom carpet.

  • Chase after plastic bags.

  • Snuggle in arms.

This is just a few of them. Abby likes to do a ton of things. She loses her toys sometimes. The toys she loses are her ball toys. Abby has a ton of ball toys that have bells inside them. Abby loves to play with people she knows. She also likes to play with milk rings . When we first got her she didn’t eat for a week. Then we took her to the vet and said that she had a stomach bug. We had to give her medication but she was very feisty. Abby is a mom because she had kittens before we got her. Abby is very itty because she jumps on chairs, beds and my bedroom height measure. I love having her because of how silly she is. I have always wanted a cat ever since I knew what a cat was
